Position: STEM Program Leader
Reports To: Associate Director of Programs & Advocacy
Type: Part-Time
Position Summary: As part of the Girls Inc. team, you will help change the trajectory of the lives of hundreds of girls from our region’s most under-resourced communities. Everyone contributes to the success of the girls we serve. Whether you are leading programs, mentoring students, creating curriculum, helping establish partnerships, developing social media content to enhance our digital presence, or writing a compelling grant, you will have the opportunity to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold! STEM Gems is a program for 9-11 year olds to explore, ask questions, persist, and solve problems through hands-on activities. Girls learn to view STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers as exciting and filled with new opportunities. STEM Gems inspires girls to have fun while exploring chemistry, engineering, environmental science, and leadership development. Participants meet two Saturdays per month from October to May at the Girls Inc. Center located at the Bok Building. STEM Gems is part of our STEM continuum of programs for students in K-12th grades.

Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey (Girls Inc.) is the local affiliate serving 2,000 girls in the Greater Philadelphia region.
Responsibilities
Program Implementation
- Implements age and developmentally appropriate activities for fourth through sixth graders.
- Prepares curricula, materials, and equipment for program and enrichment activities focused on STEM, wellness, leadership development, and career exploration.
- Responsible for the daily check-in/check-out process using the program attendance log.
- Practices effective classroom management skills to resolve conflicts and problem-solve program challenges.
- Practices the duties and responsibilities of a mandated reporter for suspected child abuse under current Girls Inc. policies and procedures, as required.
- Maintains high-quality and program safety standards that protect youths’ physical and emotional safety.
- Acts in accordance with Girls Inc. policies and procedures.
Recruitment & Retention
- Recruits 35 participants and retains at least 80% of participants during the program year.
- Assists with every part of the recruitment and enrollment process, including reviewing applications and conducting program orientations.
- Communicates regularly with parents and participants, sharing program updates, opportunities, and resources.
- Facilitates retention strategies to ensure all stakeholders are engaged in the program.
Requirements
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
- Proven experience in program planning and implementation
- Experience working with youth
- Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree

Hours and Location: Must be able to work two Saturdays each month, October to May (up to 4 hours each), and additional prep and planning time during the weekday. Up to 10 hours per week based on activities approved by the supervisor. Hours are subject to increase during the summer. Hybrid work schedule. Must be able to commute to Girls Inc. at the Bok Building (South Philadelphia). Program facilitation is in person. Other tasks may be remote, as agreed with the supervisor.
Compensation: $20/hour
